Biography
With a career spanning from 1986 to the present, Edwin Marcelo Cozar Muñoz, known affectionately as “El Capi,” stands as a paragon of soccer coaching and methodology direction. His journey began in the ranks of the Ecuadorian Army, where his leadership skills flourished alongside his athletic prowess, ultimately receiving the Professional Excellence Award for his outstanding contributions.
Cozar’s dedication to sports is not just limited to the soccer field. From 1990 to 1997, he coached various sports disciplines, achieving significant success at national and international levels. His innovative approach led to the formation of the armed forces athletes’ company for the South American Games in 1997, securing an astounding 57 gold medals out of 65 competitions. This period marked the beginning of a lifelong commitment to sports education and high-performance training.
Holding prestigious positions as Officer Instructor and Head of Physical Education at several Ecuadorian military academies, Cozar infused his programs with excellence, yielding efficient results both nationally and internationally. His professional journey is enriched with roles at notable soccer clubs across Ecuador and Argentina, including Barcelona Sporting Club, Club Deportivo El Nacional, and Club Atlético Nueva Chicago. At these clubs, he not only trained teams for significant championships like the Copa Libertadores but also promoted players to higher divisions, evidencing his ability to nurture talent.
Cozar’s academic credentials are as impressive as his coaching resume. A licensed Director Técnico from ATFA-FIFA, he has furthered his education with postgraduate studies in high-performance training in Cuba, Brazil, the USA, and Argentina, alongside continuous knowledge updates from Europe and Latin America. His expertise encompasses a wide array of subjects from biochemistry and nutrition to the biomechanics of movement and exercise physiology.
